Mrs. Shaver
This year marks my 11th year as a Golden Hawk for a total of 14 years of teaching. I am a graduate of the Pace University and the Gilder Lehrman Institute where I received my Masters in American History in 2019 and of the University of California Irvine (GO ANTEATERS!) where I studied History. I am also a current Doctorate student at NC State and am working towards my PhD in Teacher Education and Learning Science in Social Studies. On campus I am involved as an adviser for the Social Studies Honors Society and the Pride Club as well as co-adviser for the senior class.
I have been recognized this year as the Gilder Lehrman North Carolina History Teacher of the Year and in recent years as a Wake County Finalist for Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Teacher of American History recipient for the Asbury Station Chapter as well as the State of North Carolina in 2017.
I also had the privilege for the 5th year in a row as a reader and now Table Leader for the 2018 administration of the APUSH exam in Tampa, Florida where I lead a table team and scored the DBQ and was able to learn the College Board AP standards for grading that I get to bring back to HSHS.
I am happily married to my husband of 22 years, Harold, and we have 2 kids who keep us very busy. But, when we're not taking them to swim meets, we love to go camping, going to the beach, training for half marathons, and trying to load student tests into Civil War cannons (see below).
Tutorial are held twice a week during HOT lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays, by appointment, or when ever our door is open. Please feel free to contact me at: [email protected]
